About the Artist
Mary Balagia - Mixed Media, Abstract Expressionist
I'm glad you're here. Stay as long as you like.

Mary Balagia, who was born in Houston, Texas, has an innate sensitivity, a lifelong, unyielding desire to make the world a better place for all. From her first doodle Mary knew what brought her joy. Being an artist goes as far back as the many art classes she took in high school. As a result, in 1971 Mary received the Senior Art Award at St. Agnes Academy. Although life took her on a different path professionally as a registered nurse, and ordained minister, her pursuit to nurture the good in humanity, expose the brokenness and provide healing, lies within the many layers of her art.
In recent years, Mary has poured her vast experiences and convictions into creating art that reveals the injustices and imbalance that divide human beings. Additionally, in a lighthearted and captivating manner, Mary strives to create an atmosphere of personal connection in a society separated by a rope held in constant tension. In her nature focused works, she suggests that which is evenly distributed, and available to be enjoyed by all.
Through various mediums and bodies of work, both Mary's heartbreak and heart bursts have the ultimate goal of conveying understanding and compassion for one another. Having recently been in many juried art shows, Mary has received numerous awards in several categories including "Best of Show" and continues to be invited to participate in many future exhibitions.
Inspired by everyday life, Mary sources her art from within. She is a compassionate explorer of human nature, both broken and inspired by humanity. It is from the highs and lows, the delight and despair, Mary finds inspiration for her art. As an intuitive artist, she lets the next step come from somewhere inside, as her art and heart lead the way.
In short...To create art is to inhale deeply and exhale the overflow of my heart and soul.
